Gothenburg International School to Open in Mölndal in August 2026
Gothenburg International School (GIS) is pleased to announce its planned opening in Mölndal in August 2026, providing families in the Gothenburg region with a new international education option based on the globally recognised Cambridge curriculum.
The school will initially welcome students in Key Stages 1–3 (ages 5–14), with additional year groups and educational stages being introduced progressively in the coming years. GIS aims to establish a strong academic foundation while fostering creativity, critical thinking, leadership, and global citizenship.
The launch of Gothenburg International School comes in response to the growing demand for high-quality international education in the Gothenburg region, one of Scandinavia's leading centres for innovation, research, and international business.
Students at GIS will benefit from a rigorous and engaging curriculum designed to develop subject knowledge alongside essential skills such as communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and independent learning. The school will provide a welcoming international environment where students from diverse backgrounds can thrive academically and personally.
“Gothenburg International School is being established with a clear vision: to create an inspiring learning environment where students are challenged academically, supported personally, and prepared to succeed in an increasingly interconnected world.
“Our ambition is to build a school community that combines academic excellence with strong values, helping students develop the confidence, character, and skills needed for future success.”
GIS will be operated by American Schools of Sweden AB, an education provider committed to delivering high-quality international education and supporting students in reaching their full potential.
The school will initially serve families seeking an English-language international education aligned with global standards while maintaining strong connections to the local community.
Applications for the 2026–2027 academic year are now open, and families are encouraged to register their interest early as places will be limited during the founding years of the school.
