Student Wellbeing

Student Wellbeing

A Safe, Supportive and Caring School Environment

At Gothenburg International School (GIS), student wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do. We believe that children learn best when they feel safe, supported, and valued.

Our approach to wellbeing ensures that every student is known as an individual and receives the care and attention they need to thrive both academically and personally.

Every Child is Known and Supported

With small class sizes of a maximum of 15 students, teachers are able to build strong relationships with every child.

This allows us to:

  • Understand each student’s personality and needs

  • Notice early signs of support or challenge

  • Provide individual guidance and encouragement

  • Create a strong sense of belonging

No student is overlooked at GIS.

A Positive and Respectful School Culture

We promote a calm, respectful, and structured learning environment where students feel secure and confident.

Our school culture is built on:

  • Respect for others

  • Responsibility for learning

  • Positive behaviour and attitudes

  • Clear expectations and consistency

This creates an environment where students can focus, grow, and succeed.

Supporting Emotional and Social Development

We recognise that wellbeing is not only academic—it also includes emotional and social development.

We support students to:

  • Build confidence and self-esteem

  • Develop healthy friendships

  • Manage emotions and challenges

  • Communicate effectively with others

  • Feel included in the school community

Students are supported throughout their journey by caring and attentive staff.

A Safe Learning Environment

Safety is a top priority at GIS.

We maintain clear safeguarding procedures and a structured environment to ensure that students feel secure at all times during the school day.

Our staff are trained to support student wellbeing and respond appropriately to individual needs.

Encouraging Confidence and Resilience

We help students develop the confidence and resilience needed for both school and life beyond education.

Students are encouraged to:

  • Take on challenges with confidence

  • Learn from mistakes

  • Develop independence

  • Build a positive mindset towards learning

These qualities are essential for long-term success.

Strong Relationships Between School and Families

We believe that student wellbeing is strongest when schools and families work closely together.

We maintain open communication with parents and encourage regular dialogue to support each child’s development.

This partnership ensures that students receive consistent support both at school and at home.

A Caring International Community

GIS is an international school where students from different backgrounds learn together in a supportive and inclusive environment.

We celebrate diversity and encourage students to:

  • Respect different cultures and perspectives

  • Build friendships across nationalities

  • Develop global awareness

  • Feel part of an international community

Wellbeing That Supports Success

At GIS, we understand that academic success and wellbeing go hand in hand.

When students feel safe, supported, and confident, they are more likely to achieve their full potential.

Our goal is simple:

To create a school environment where every child feels secure, valued, and ready to succeed.
