Year Group Guide

At Gothenburg International School, year-group placement is based on your child’s age on 31 August, together with their previous schooling and educational background.

GIS welcomes students from age 6 in Years 1–9.

Placement at GIS

Children joining GIS may come from different countries and education systems, where year groups and grade levels do not always correspond directly.

When considering the appropriate placement, we look at:

• age on 31 August
• current or most recent year or grade
• previous schooling and educational background
• school reports, where available
• previous experience of learning in English

Where appropriate, we may arrange an age-appropriate meeting or assessment before confirming placement.

Final year-group placement is confirmed by the GIS Admissions Team.
