Gothenburg International School is an English-language international school where students from different countries, cultures and educational backgrounds learn together.

English is the shared language of teaching and everyday school life, giving students the opportunity to use the language naturally throughout the school day.

A School for International Families

Children joining GIS may have studied in Sweden, another European country, the Middle East, Asia, North America or elsewhere.

Some may have moved between several school systems. Others may be experiencing international education for the first time.

We understand that every child arrives with a different educational background, and we take that into account when helping them settle into GIS and determining the appropriate year-group placement.

Different Perspectives in the Classroom

An international classroom brings together students with different experiences, languages and ways of seeing the world.

Students learn to listen to one another, explain their ideas and understand that there may be more than one perspective on a question.

These experiences become a natural part of everyday learning at GIS.

Learning in English

English is the main language of teaching and learning at GIS.

Some children may have studied in English before, while for others it may be a new language.

Teachers consider each student's experience with English and support their language development alongside their academic learning.

Continuity for Families Who Move

For families who relocate between countries, changing schools can be one of the most difficult parts of a move.

An English-language international education can provide greater continuity, particularly for children who have already studied in an international environment or may move again in the future.

Small Classes in an International School

International education works best when teachers understand the individual student behind each background and school history.

With a maximum of 15 students per class, teachers have the time to know each student, understand where they are in their learning and provide additional support or greater challenge when needed.

GIS gives families across the Gothenburg region access to an English-language international education in Mölndal for students from age 6 in Years 1–9.
