Learning in English, Within an International Community

Gothenburg International School is an English-language international school where children from different countries, cultures and school systems learn together. English is the shared language of teaching and everyday school life, so students use it naturally throughout the day: in lessons, in conversation and in working with others.

A School for International Families

Children joining GIS may have studied in Sweden, elsewhere in Europe, the Middle East, Asia, North America or beyond. Some will have moved between several school systems. For others, this will be their first experience of international education. We take each child’s background into account when deciding the right year group and helping them settle in.

Different Perspectives in the Classroom

In an international class, children bring different experiences, languages and ways of seeing the world. Learning alongside each other, they practise listening, explaining their ideas and recognising that a question can have more than one answer.

Learning in English and Swedish

English is the main language of teaching and learning at GIS. Some children may have studied in English before, while for others it may be a newer language. Teachers take each student’s experience with English into account and pay attention to their language development as well as their progress in other subjects.

Living in Sweden is easier when children can take part in the language around them. Swedish is taught as a subject in every year group, alongside English, Mathematics and Science.

Continuity for Families Who Move

For families relocating between countries, changing schools is often one of the hardest parts of a move. An English-language international education can make the transition easier, particularly for children who have already studied in an international setting or may move again in the future.

Small Classes, Individual Attention

Children arriving from different school systems need teachers who understand where each of them is starting from. With a maximum of 15 students per class, teachers have time to get to know each child and offer extra support or more challenge when needed.

An International School in Mölndal

GIS offers an English-language international education in Mölndal for children aged 6–14, in Years 1–9, with a British-inspired educational approach. Admission is subject to the eligibility requirements for international schools in Sweden and to the availability of places.

There are no tuition, application or enrolment fees.
