When are admissions open?

Admissions are now open for August 2027 for Years 1–9.

Families who are ready to apply may submit a formal Application for Admission directly through our website.

What ages does GIS accept?

GIS welcomes students from age 6 in Years 1–9.

Year-group placement is based primarily on the child’s age on 31 August, together with previous schooling and educational background.

If you are unsure about the appropriate year group, our Admissions Team can help.

Who can apply to GIS?

As an international school in Sweden, GIS must follow specific eligibility requirements.

A child may be eligible if they:

• are living in Sweden for a limited period;
• have attended school abroad for an extended period and wish to continue their education in Sweden;
• have established reasons to expect that they will leave Sweden for an extended period; or
• use English daily with one or both parents/legal guardians and have sufficient English to participate in the education.

A preference for English-language education alone does not establish eligibility.

If you are unsure, you are welcome to Register Your Interest and our Admissions Team will review your circumstances.

How do I apply?

If you are ready to apply, you can submit a formal Application for Admission directly through our website.

You will need to provide the required supporting documents and pay the one-off application fee of SEK 5,000 per child.

If you would prefer to speak with our Admissions Team before applying, you can first Register Your Interest.

Is there a fee to register my interest?

No. Registering your interest is free.

There is a SEK 5,000 one-off application fee when a formal application is submitted.

Is the application fee refundable?

The application fee is fully refundable if GIS determines that the child does not meet the school’s admission criteria and cannot be offered a place.

The fee is not refundable if GIS offers the child a place and the family chooses not to accept it.

Does GIS charge tuition fees?

Yes. Annual tuition fees apply, together with a one-off application fee and a one-off enrolment fee.

Does registering my interest guarantee a place?

No. Registering your interest does not guarantee admission or reserve a place at GIS.

It is an optional way to contact the school before submitting a formal application.

Does submitting an application guarantee a place?

No. Admission is subject to eligibility, year-group placement, availability and completion of the admissions process.

GIS may also request additional information, documentation, a meeting or an assessment where needed.

When is my child’s place confirmed?

If your child is offered a place, you will receive a formal Offer of Admission.

The place is confirmed once the offer has been accepted and the one-off enrolment fee of SEK 15,000 has been paid by the deadline stated in the offer.

How will I know which year group my child should join?

The child’s age on 31 August is the starting point for year-group placement.

GIS also considers previous schooling and educational background before confirming the appropriate year group.

What approach to education does GIS offer?

GIS offers a British approach to education, with clear progression in learning and an emphasis on knowledge, understanding and independent thinking.

Classes are limited to a maximum of 15 students, allowing teachers to follow each student’s progress closely.

What is the language of instruction?

English is the main language of teaching and everyday school life at GIS.

Students may join with different levels of experience learning in English, and we consider each child’s language background as part of the admissions process.

Does my child need to speak fluent English?

Not necessarily. Some children may have studied in English before, while for others it may be a new language.

Language background, age and previous education are considered as part of the admissions process.

How large are the classes?

Classes at GIS are limited to a maximum of 15 students.

This gives teachers the time to know their students, follow their progress closely and respond when they need additional support or greater challenge.

Will my child need an assessment?

Not every child will need one. Depending on previous schooling, educational background and individual circumstances, GIS may arrange a meeting or age-appropriate assessment as part of the admissions process.

Can families outside Sweden contact GIS before moving?

Yes. Families planning a move to the Gothenburg region are welcome to Register Their Interest before arriving in Sweden. International-school eligibility requirements still apply.

Can children from different school systems apply?

Yes. Students joining GIS may come from different countries, curricula and school systems. Previous schooling and educational background are taken into account when determining year-group placement.

What if my child needs learning or language support?

Please provide relevant information during the application process.This helps us understand your child’s previous experience and consider what support may be appropriate. You can also read more on our Learning Support and Language Support page.

Do you offer After-School Care?

GIS plans to offer After-School Care (ASC) for families who need care beyond the end of the school day.

Families can indicate their interest during the admissions process. Further information about arrangements and availability will be provided separately.

Can we visit GIS?

Yes. Visits should be arranged in advance. Please contact our Admissions Team at admissions@goteborgis.se to arrange a suitable time.

I am not sure whether my child is eligible. What should I do?

Complete our Register Your Interest form and select the option indicating that you would like the Admissions Team to advise you. We will review the information provided and contact you.
