Key Stage 5 — Future Development

Advanced Study and Future Pathways

Key Stage 5 will form the final stage of the GIS secondary pathway, giving students the opportunity to specialise in subjects that support their future academic and career plans.

As GIS develops into the upper secondary years, we plan to introduce an A Level pathway for students aged approximately 16–18.

A Level Study

A Level students typically focus on a smaller number of subjects and study them in considerably greater depth.

This stage requires students to analyse complex ideas, work independently and take increasing responsibility for their studies.

Students develop skills including:

• critical thinking and analysis
• independent research
• academic writing
• problem-solving
• time management
• preparing for formal assessment

The subjects available at GIS will be confirmed before the programme opens.

Individual Academic Guidance

The GIS commitment to small classes will continue into Key Stage 5, with a maximum of 15 students per class.

This will allow teachers to know their students well, follow their academic progress closely and provide individual guidance as the work becomes more specialised and demanding.

Students will also receive guidance when considering subject choices and their options after school.

Preparing for What Comes Next

Different students will have different plans after secondary school.

Some may intend to apply to university, while others may choose different academic, professional or international pathways.

Our aim will be to ensure students understand their options and are academically prepared to make informed decisions about what comes next.

Future Development at GIS

Key Stage 5 is not currently open for admission.

GIS currently accepts students in Years 1–9.

The Key Stage 5 and planned A Level pathway form part of the future development of the school. Information about the start date, subjects, qualifications, assessment arrangements and admissions will be published once these details have been confirmed.
