Key Stage 4 — Future Development

Preparing for Formal Qualifications

Key Stage 4 will extend the GIS learning pathway beyond Year 9, giving students the opportunity to work towards internationally recognised secondary-school qualifications.

Our planned programme is intended for students aged approximately 14–16 and is being developed around the IGCSE pathway.

The IGCSE Pathway

IGCSE programmes combine in-depth subject learning with formal assessment and require students to become increasingly independent in the way they study and prepare for examinations.

Students would normally study core subjects such as:

• English
• Mathematics
• Science

alongside additional subjects selected from the programme available at GIS.

The final range of subjects will be confirmed before Key Stage 4 admissions open.

Greater Academic Responsibility

At this stage, students are expected to manage more demanding work, use feedback effectively and take greater responsibility for their preparation and performance.

The GIS approach will continue to combine these expectations with a maximum of 15 students per class, allowing teachers to follow students closely and provide individual guidance, support and greater challenge where appropriate.

Preparing for the Next Stage

Key Stage 4 is an important bridge between lower secondary education and the next stage of a student's academic pathway.

Students completing this stage should be better prepared for A Levels or other upper-secondary and international education pathways, depending on their future plans.

Future Development at GIS

Key Stage 4 is not currently open for admission.

GIS currently accepts students in Years 1–9.

The Key Stage 4 programme forms part of the school's future development. Information about the start date, subjects offered, qualifications, assessment arrangements and admissions will be published once these details have been confirmed.
